Divorce suggestions

Came across a couple of good links today about kids and divorce:

How Do I Keep My Anger At My Ex From Hurting My Child?
This Q & A from About.com Divorce Support has guidelines for coping with an angry child, including:
  • Love your child and be there for them even if their words are hurtful.
  • Show your child love by expressing it.
  • If they won’t communicate with you, write them letters on a regular basis.

Child's Age and Stage of Development Make a Difference
This section of Because Life Goes On...Helping Children and Youth Live With Separation and Divorce from the Public Health Agency of Canada talks about divorce and different ages of children. For instance, for pre-teens (9-12 years):
Social withdrawal is a common sign of worry or fear among pre-teens.... Lack of involvement...may be a signal to parents that a child is troubled.

...Pre-teens will frequently convert feelings of helplessness and sadness into anger. Anger helps prevent them from feeling unhappy and emotionally vulnerable
